Friday Gap Shap: Diwali and Bandi Chhor Diwas

As we get closer to Diwali and Bandi Chhor Diwas I reflect on my upbringing and on my family now.

I feel proud that my boys have so many Punjabi, Sikhi and English products around them. This allows them to absorb all parts of their culture.

Growing up, Montessori didn't exist for me. We learnt through look, cover, write, check. We were told what to learn, when to learn, how long to learn.

I love having a world where my kids can learn through play, through their own interests and explore new ideas at their own pace.

They can ask questions, make mistakes, and discover things for themselves — and in that process, with the range of products now available, they are connecting with their history and culture in a way that feels natural.

It makes me think: learning is not just about knowledge, it’s about curiosity, creativity, and confidence. And isn’t that the kind of learning we all want for our children?

I'm looking forward to find something personal and Punjabi or Sikhi based to treat them to next week. Are you doing the same?

I'd love to know - drop me an email or message below.
