Happy Diwali and Happy Bandi Chhor Diwas!

Happy Diwali!
Happy Bandi Chhor Diwas!

Whether you were celebrating yesterday or celebrating today - may Waheguru (God) bless you and your family during this special time.

As a family we are celebrating today by going to the Gurdwara, taking time out from running around and getting by to be thankful for being together and what we have. Most importantly we'll be reflecting on the teachings of Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji and how we can implement them to our lives.

Do you know what Bandi Chhor Divas means?

ਬੰਦੀ ਛੋੜ ਦਿਵਸ

ਬੰਦੀ - Bandi - Prisoner
ਛੋੜ - Chhor - Release
ਦਿਵਸ - Divas - Day

Bandi Chhor Divas marks the day Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji, our sixth Guru, was released from prison at Gwalior Fort. But it wasn’t just about his own freedom; he made sure 52 other kings, also wrongfully imprisoned, were released with him. The Emperor set a condition: only those who could hold onto Guru Ji’s cloak would be freed. So Guru Ji had a special cloak made with 52 tassels, one for each king, so they could all go free. It’s such a powerful reminder of standing up for justice and caring for others.

We will be using today to reflect on the last year - did we do enough to stand up for justice, for causes we love and care about? Also, what will we be doing for the next year, what causes will we support, how will we use our voice to stand up for those under-represented?

What lessons will you be implemented?

Can't wait to hear from you!
