“I should have learnt Punjabi when I was younger”

“I should have learnt Punjabi when I was younger.”

I hear this all the time from adults.

Some grew up hearing Punjabi at home but always replied in English. Others never had anyone to teach them. And now they have children of their own, they really want Punjabi to be part of their family.

But where do you start when you’re still learning yourself?

Around 70% of my students are over 35, and I’m so proud of them. They’re making time around work, children and everything else because this matters to them.

For me, the reason I wanted to learn was being at the Gurdwara and not understanding what was being said. I wanted to understand the Keertan, Gurbani and Katha. Eventually I got fed up of sitting there wishing I understood, and decided I needed to do something about it.

Your reason might be different. Maybe you want to talk to your grandparents, speak Punjabi with your children, or read paath for yourself.

That’s where I’d start. With what you want to be able to do.

Our 1:1 tuition for adult beginners gives you a choice of speaking, reading or both. We use role plays, online games and flashcards, with time to ask questions and practise.

You don’t need to know everything before your first lesson. That’s what we’re here to help with!

Lessons are £40 an hour. You can see the options here:
