Living with inconsistent electricity for 6 months

When I moved to Punjab 6 months ago, the main thing to adapt to was the electricity going off whenever it wanted.

And I do mean whenever.

There is no reliability in the electricity in Punjab.

So, you learn to plan. And you learn to be patient.

When there is light, you keep your phone charged. You keep your laptop plugged in.
You fill up the tank of water for the house.
You turn on the geezer so you can have a warm water shower.

But then there is no electricity, you patiently wait and last on the laptop battery or phone battery you have. You conserve the lights and fans in the house because you don't want to sit in darkness.

Some houses invest in an inverter. Basically a big battery for when the electricity goes, but even this will only last so many hours.

So patience and conserving electricity is the way forward.

The more you use the invertor to charge your phone or laptop, the quicker it will drain.

So big appliances like fridge, freezer, washing machines can't be used.
Anything that pulls energy like an iron or hair dryer can't be used.

So you become patient and you change your plans of what you can do.

There have been days that we have had no electricity for 8 hours.

So we boil water on the gas and shower in the morning with a bucket and jug so we can get ready to get on with our day.

We have back up powerbanks ready for our phone. We charge our laptop when needed but don't leave it plugged in.

And if the internet turns off because our battery/invetor has run out, we use a mobile data hotspot.

Moving from the UK to Punjab and experiencing the electricity inconsitency, it makes me feel grateful for the constant electricity in the UK.

What has your experience been on Punjab and the electricity?
